Notice how every year we zealously set ambitious goals and although full of intentions we quit before January is over? You aren't the only one and we've all been there. But how does one get out of the funk of setting & quitting goals, yo-yo dieting & the hamster wheel of lifestyle changes?
FOLLOW MY TIPS BELOW.....
Look At the Big Picture Before You Set Your Goals
Who: Who is involved in this goal?
What: What do I want to accomplish?
Where: Where will the goal be achieved?
When: When do I want to achieve this goal?
When: When will I work on this goal?
Why: Why do you want to achieve this goal?
Look all the factors involved for you to work on & achieve your goal. Visit your monthly calendar, mark off “free days” to work on your goals” and days you have other responsibilities you can’t rearrange.
Set Concrete, Behavior-Based Goals
How many/much?
How do I know if I’ve achieved my goal?
What are my indicators of progress?
Make sure you set goals that are measurable & specific. You’ll need to measure your progress and if you’re goals “too big” or you haven’t defined progress you may feel discouraged.
Get Real
Do I have the resources & capabilities to achieve this goal?
Have others done this successfully before?
What can I learn from the journey of others?
Your goal should be achievable and attainable. You want to challenge yourself, but you also want to have a well-defined plan so that you can achieve the goal although challenging. Don’t set goals without a set plan of action or it may feel as if it’s impossible to achieve
Give yourself Grace:
Do I have the resources & capabilities to achieve this goal?
Have others done this successfully before?
What can I learn from the journey of others?
What will I do when i stray or fall off course?
Things happen. You’ll stray, forget, and completely ignore your goals. And that’s okay, give yourself grace. And get back to your “WHY” and remind yourself that it’s small daily steps. When you feel confused or discouraged remember “the big picture” in STEP 1!
Goal Setting should be fun and exciting. You’re trying something new and traveling into the unknown so be ready for one heck of a ride! Check out more 411 with FitsL Blog Post on Goals Here….
